Chemical Hair Straighteners

If you have very curly hair and wish to have it permanently straightened, your hairdresser can use a variety of chemical solutions to straighten your hair for good. Usually, the process of having your hair professionally straightenend with a chemical treatment is known as relaxing. Though you’ll have to have your locks ‘touched up’ every so often to maintain the look, hair straightening chemicals are quite effective.

One reason electrical hair straighteners are so popular is that hair straightening chemicals have a lot of potential side effects – especially if they’re not applied properly. Just as colourants and other solutions can irritate the scalp, straightening chemicals can do the same. Similarly, they can dehydrate the hair, make it brittle and generally cause damage.

Chemicals are effective in providing a more permanent solution to hair straightening by altering the physical structure of the hair. If you hair is quite fine, chemically treated or otherwise already damaged, great care must be taken when choosing relaxing agents. This is just one of many reasons that chemical hair straighteners are best used by professionals. Also, because of the harsh nature of hair straightening chemicals, there is almost always a specialised regime of hair care that must be followed to maintain the effects of chemical straightening, as well as help strengthen the hair and prevent further damage.
